A Typical Day at Fun Learners’ School Care Sengkang: Homework, Meals and Fun
Updated: 2 days ago

What really happens between school dismissal and parent pickup?
As a parent, you want to know that after school, your child is safe, well cared for and making good use of the afternoon.
You want school homework to be properly managed. You want your child to have time to eat and recharge. You want them to receive meaningful academic support. But you may also want something that goes beyond academics alone: better study habits, stronger focus, greater responsibility and the ability to manage their own learning more independently.
That is where Fun Learners’ School Care Sengkang has a different focus.
Tuition typically focuses on subject-specific instruction. Fun Learners’ School Care focuses on the learner’s whole learning routine, supported by academic reinforcement.
We look at the bigger picture: Can your child organise what needs to be done? Prioritise school homework? Stay focused? Understand what they have learnt? Explain their understanding? Revise important topics? Ask for help appropriately? And gradually become less dependent on adults reminding them what to do next?
From arrival to pickup, these skills are practised through a structured afternoon of school-homework support, the Independent Study Training System™, Daily Log planning, Study Rounds, academic reinforcement, meals and breaks, enrichment and preparation for the next day.
Here’s what a typical school-term afternoon can look like.
Exact timing may vary according to school dismissal times, the learner’s level and the centre’s approved schedule.
01
Arrival: Settle in, reset and get ready
After a busy school day, children need a smooth transition into the afternoon.
When learners arrive at Fun Learners’ School Care Sengkang, they follow a structured arrival routine. They settle their belongings, freshen up, refill their water bottles and get themselves ready for the activities ahead.
Attendance and wellbeing are checked, and learners prepare their Daily Log.The Daily Log helps turn the afternoon from "What am I supposed to do now?" into a clearer plan: "What needs to be completed? What should I work on first? What do I need help with?"
This may sound simple, but learning to plan and prioritise is an important part of becoming an independent learner. These daily habits are part of Fun Learners’ School Care Independent Study Training System™.
Because our goal is not simply to supervise children after school. We want to help learners gradually become better at managing themselves, their responsibilities and their learning.
02
Homework time: School homework comes first
For many parents, this is one of the biggest questions:
“Will my child get proper support with school homework?”
At Fun Learners’ School Care Sengkang, school homework comes first.
Learners work through focused Study Rounds, with teachers nearby to supervise, guide, check and provide support when needed.
Rather than simply giving children answers, teachers encourage learners to understand instructions, attempt their work, identify where they are stuck and ask for help appropriately.
And importantly, Student Care does not usually pile on additional Fun Learners homework.
From time to time, learners may complete assessment practice, revision papers or learning checks when needed. These activities provide revision and reinforcement rather than replacing or competing with school homework. The objective is therefore bigger than:
“Did you finish your homework?”
We also want learners to develop the habits to start their work, stay focused, work through difficulties, check what they have done and take increasing responsibility for completing their tasks.
03
Meals and breaks: Because children need time to recharge too
Children cannot be expected to concentrate continuously after a full day at school. Meals, snacks and breaks are therefore an important part of the Fun Learners’ School Care routine.
Learners have opportunities to eat, drink, use the washroom, recharge and reset before returning to focused activities.
Food service is supported by hygiene, dietary and food-safety procedures so that meal and snack times remain organised and properly supervised.
If your child has allergies or dietary requirements, speak with our Sengkang team during your centre visit so we can explain the applicable arrangements
04
Academic reinforcement: A different focus from tuition
This is an important distinction for parents to understand.
Fun Learners’ School Care is Student Care with holistic academic reinforcement. We are not positioning Student Care as a replacement for specialised tuition. Tuition and FLSC serve different purposes.
Tuition typically focuses deeply on subject-specific instruction and performance.
For example, if a parent is looking specifically for intensive Science instruction focused on mastering the subject at a higher level, a dedicated Science tuition programme has a different purpose.
At FLSC, our focus is broader. We look at the whole learner and the whole learning routine:
Can the learner manage school responsibilities?
Can they focus and engage with the work?
Do they understand what they have learnt?
Can they articulate that understanding?
Can they revisit and revise important topics?
Can they apply what they have learnt?
Are they developing better study habits?
Are they becoming more independent?
This is where our Dual-Teacher Lessons provide structured academic reinforcement alongside the Independent Study Training System™.
A Master Teacher leads the lesson, while an on-site facilitator supports learners with participation, engagement and reinforcement. Depending on the day and your child’s level, guided learning may include English, Mathematics, Science, Chinese and STARdy Buddy.
The purpose is not simply to give children more worksheets. Learners engage with academic materials, revisit important topics, reinforce concepts and are encouraged to articulate what they have understood.
In other words, we do not want learning to stop at:
“I completed it.”
We want to move learners towards:
“I understand it. I can explain it. I can apply it. And I know what I need to work on next.”
That is what we mean by holistic academic reinforcement.
05
STARdy Buddy: Developing the learner behind the results
Academic knowledge matters, but how a child approaches learning matters too.
That is why STARdy Buddy complements academic reinforcement by developing studying strategies, life skills and character.
Together with the Daily Log, Study Rounds and Independent Study Training System™, it supports an important FLSC objective:
Helping children learn how to learn.
A learner may know the content but still struggle because they procrastinate, lose focus, do not plan their time or depend on an adult to constantly tell them what to do. These are the learning habits FLSC wants to strengthen over time.
06
Time to read, explore and enjoy being a child
A good Student Care afternoon should not feel like another full school day.
Once priority work has been completed or appropriately managed, learners can take part in approved Enrichment Stations.
Depending on the activities available, these can include quiet reading, art and design, logic and strategy challenges, STEM or maker activities, writing and language activities, and practical life-admin tasks.
There are also scheduled breaks throughout the afternoon. These moments give children a chance to change pace, to read, create, think, explore and recharge after periods of focused study.
Because while learning matters, children also need space to enjoy their afternoon.
The bigger goal: Building a learner who can increasingly manage themselves
Perhaps the most important part of the FLSC day is something parents may not notice immediately. It is the gradual change in what a child learns to do for themselves.
Planning tasks in the Daily Log.
Knowing what to work on first.
Staying focused during a Study Round.
Completing school homework responsibly.
Engaging with academic materials.
Revising important topics.
Explaining what they have understood.
Asking for help appropriately.
Keeping track of belongings.
Packing properly before going home.
Preparing for tomorrow.
Teachers are there to guide, support and encourage, but over time, the goal is for learners to rely less on constant reminders and take greater ownership of their responsibilities.
That is the difference in focus.
Tuition can provide deeper, subject-specific instruction. FLSC develops the learner’s whole after-school learning routine while providing meaningful academic reinforcement along the way.
That is the thinking behind our Independent Study Training System™:
Build Focus. Build Discipline. Build Independence.
07
Parent pickup: Ending today well—and preparing for tomorrow
As the afternoon comes to an end, learners do not simply grab their bags and rush out the door. They complete their head-home routine: organising their work, packing their belongings and preparing for the next school day.
Dismissal is managed according to the centre’s authorised pickup arrangements, while the Daily Log and centre communication processes help parents stay informed about their child’s afternoon and any areas that may need follow-up.
It is a simple idea:
A good afternoon should not only complete today’s responsibilities. It should help your child become better prepared to manage tomorrow’s responsibilities.
